Classified ad portal
- E-commerce, Enterprise
The use case
Since the 80s, Expressz was the largest classified ad publisher in Hungary. In the 2000s, they also launched a web portal, but for a long time, they were operating with two separate ad management backends and databases behind them.
They wanted one, highly parameterizable system, which supports both online and printed classified ads. The system had to support the publication, printery management, and logistics of the printed newspapers. They also wanted a new portal, which enables users deeper search parameterizations.
The solution
We had been working with Laurel Ltd. to develop the backend, the web portal for the ad listings, and the ad management portal for customers.
- The web based backend enabled ad managers at Expressz to manage products, categories, discount packages, solve customer issues with the helpdesk module, etc.
- The printery management module's custom algorithms generated the content for planned issues, considering the appearance and space needed for different ad types, calculating the ads to maximalize space usage on the printed pages.
- MyAd, the ad management portal for customers enabled ad hoc users to easily create ads, and supported various upselling methods defined in the backend. It also supported large scale users (e.g. realtor agents) which managed thousands of ads with bulk uploads.
- The new web portal for ad listing featured complex search and filter methods, while supporting over 1 million daily visits.
The result
The system was successfully implemented. A couple years later Expressz was acquired by Schibsted Marketplaces.
